What A Business Plan Should Really Be Like:


Keep focused reviewing your massage business plan!!

You know what it’s like. Things get busy, you put off looking at your business plan…. “yeah, I must do that”, you say. But seriously, do you know why most businesses fail? Not enough clients…obviously. Getting massage clients involves planning. Therapists who have no planning can put themselves at risk of having ineffective direction, lack of clarity in decision making and movement, and be unable to set goals and stick to the program of success.

Most of us, when we think of a business plan for our massage practices, think of sitting down in front of the computer and planning, thinking and challenging our brains to the point of difficulty. But you know it doesn’t have to be like that at all. In fact it can be really fun doing a massage business plan.

You can either buy software to do a business plan on, or go the simple inexpensive way- using a journal. You can really have fun with it. You can make it almost like a scrap book or photo album with colours, pictures and things in there that make you smile. How much better would it be if our business plans were full of pictures and colour?

You may want to call it “My Massage Business Success” plan. Or “My Plan To Be A Successful Therapist.” The trouble with many business plans is that they are boring. The business plan software CDs that I have seen are dull, corporate and use big corporate words that are non specific to the massage industry. They use words like “executive summary” and “revenue model.” Yeah, yeah whatever! Not relevant to my massage business!

You see we’re not taught to have fun when we do a business plan, allow for day dreams or crazy ideas, or even pictures! This is really weird that it is like this, because we are imaginative beings, filled with creative ideas, ready to be put in to place. How can we possibly get creative when we hear boring terms like “executive summary”? It stifles our creativity.

Really, your business plan is not just a plan to have a business, but a plan to be happy and successful, with a thriving massage business. It’s really your “Success Plan.”

So let’s get started. Make sure you have the things that are relevant to you and your personal situation.

You can use terms in your self made massage business plan like:

My ideas for getting new clients. My idea client looks like, and acts like: X.

Who I think would be really good to do business with. How I’m going to keep motivated.

How I can improve my rebooking rate. How many clients I want in 6 months from now.

3 ways I can filter out negative people from my life who don’t believe in having success..  

Include mind maps, photos, and quotes, poems and sayings from positive people to make it more appealing to you. I have “When I thought I couldn’t go on, I forced myself to keep going. My success is based on persistence, not luck” by Estee Lauder. It is in front of me because it reminds me to keep focused on the big picture and persist no matter what. It’s persistence that gets you through the most.

So have fun with your massage business plan. Make it a book you want to open everyday because it makes you feel good. Not bored. Make it stimulating to the eye and the most important thing…..your heart.
